IT was most interesting to read your article (LET, May 2) about the Whitsun processions which used to take place in Lancashire before the war.
But I was surprised that there was not even a mention of one of the biggest and the most colourful of them all, the annual Whit Monday procession in Preston.
Our family used to go every year, having relatives who lived there, and it was most enjoyable.
The tableaux, banners and floral displays were very beautiful, and it took about two hours for it all pass.
One one occasion I went to see the Manchester procession on the Friday, but was slightly disappointed in comparison with the ones in Preston.
However, it was sad to see them all discontinued owing to the war and most of them have never started again. They were really happy times to be remembered with pleasure.
