ADRIAN Heath began a nationwide search for a new full-back today.
Gary Parkinson's sudden departure to Preston North End has left Heath in the market for a right-sided defender.
The Clarets chief will begin talks with Richard Huxford when he returns from holiday next week.
But I understand the player could join Barry Fry's Peterborough United after tentative discussions with the Third Division club.
Heath said: "I know one or two clubs have spoken to Richard including Peterborough.
"Losing Gary has made that area a priority now and I will be having talks with Richard.
"I think Gary was after a bit more stability and with a three-year deal at Preston he's got that.
"I made him what I thought was a good offer, but it was not a total surprise when I heard he'd signed for Preston.
"There has been no sort of falling-out between Gary and me. I've always enjoyed a good relationship with the player.
"He has made his decision and, although I don't think it is the right one, we will just have to get on with things."
Heath added: "Our supporters haven't seen the best of Richard Huxford. He came to Burnley at a delicate period and he had a difficult time.
"I left Gary (Parkinson) out and Richard didn't do as well as he wanted to do."
Heath has denied any link with Manchester City defender John Foster. The manager added: "He was a youngster when I was at Manchester City and I've not made any approach." Preston boss Gary Peters, though, was delighted to land Parkinson's signature.
He said: "I've always admired him as a player and I've kept tabs on him for a long time.
"I had no problems in offering him a three-year deal because he is a player of great quality and I believe he is now playing some of the best football of his career.
"I've always felt that defenders are at their best when they are approaching 30 and we are really pleased that Gary has decided to join us."
