TWO outstanding young athletes, diver Daniel Crake and thrower Emma Morris, look set to win grants from Burnley Area Sports Council.
Daniel, a member of Burnley Dolphin Diving Club, is showing the potential to reach national level, having won county and regional competitions at one and three metre springboard diving.
He is now preparing for platform diving and has been invited to camps at Crystal Palace and Sheffield and to train and compete in Holland next month.
Members of Burnley Council's Recreation and Leisure Services Committee will tonight be asked to approve a recommended grant of £150. Emma, a member of Burnley Athletic Club, is an exceptional junior athlete, specialising in throwing shot, javelin and discus.
She is North of England under 17s indoor champion and trained by Olympic coach Wilf Parish in Leeds.
The committee will be asked to approve a £100 grant to purchase a gold card for use in the future fitness suite at the Thompson Centre.
A grant of £200 to Burnley Caving Club towards conversion work at their new Bank Hall sports ground headquarters is also recommended.
A £100 grant, reviewable on the outcome of a Lottery application, to Rossendale Valley Sailing Club will also be considered.
The club is bidding for lottery funds to develop the Clowbridge Reservoir site and to improve clubhouse facilities and access.
They also want to buy a Challenger Trimaran for the use of disabled adults.
