EXPANDING international telecommunications company DXP is moving to Leigh with the promise of new jobs.
Digital Exchange Products aims to convert the old Yates and Greer pork and pie specialists' building in Lord Street into its headquarters.
The move would bring more than 50 jobs to the town.
High tech DXP is a leading supplier of telecommunications systems through Britain and Europe with high-ranking customers such as Barclays Bank.
The company wants to transfer 18 of its staff from presently overcrowded premises in Astley to the 10,000 square foot Paragon House. Hiring locally, it intends trebling this number by the year 2000.
DXP's Phil Sawyer explained:"We hope to conclude the deal shortly to make Leigh our new home.
"Having been looking for suitable new headquarters for some time we decided Leigh, in general, and the Yates and Greer building, in particular, have a lot to offer.
"The building needs a lot doing to it but we have plans to ensure it will play a major part in revitalising the town centre. This should attract more companies to Leigh helping restore the thriving community it once was."
