Review by Nicola Jolly

BIG, bold, brash Jo Brand warned Preston's Guild Hall audience she would shock them - and she did not break her work.

By now, after three visits to Preston, local comedy lovers know this comic's brand of humour which centres on sex, fatness, men-bashing and cakes.

So the smattering of swear words and sexually explicit stories did not really shock - except for one particular anecdote Jo divulged which she was banned from telling in her Channel Four series. And yes, it was quite sick!

The former psychiatric nurse interacted well with the audience despite having two sweets thrown at her. She complained and asked for a few more!

Support act Andy Robinson confidently delivered his half-hour monologue and was very popular with the crowd. His renditions of Oasis and Spice Girls songs in a country and western style were hilarious.

Many seats in the Guild Hall remained empty as tickets were quite heftily priced at £12 and £13. The smaller Charter Theatre would have been busier with a better atmosphere, but on the whole it was a very entertaining evening.
