LEIGH have been sent packing from the League Cup.
After posting a respectable 161 against Oxton, their rivals swept in on the back of a century opening partnership.
Greg Dimery and skipper Dave Dove quickly fell as Leigh battled for a good score. But it looked good as Steve Bailey (55) and Tom McKiernan (39) carried the side into treble figures. Steve Whalley then made a quickfire 21 and Phil Clarke 14 for what appeared a decent score on a wet wicket.
But the Oxton openers showed the way, putting on 102 in just 26 overs.
The complexion of the game changed with wickets for Graham Duddle (1-25) and Clarke, who collected 3-43. But the fifth wicket pair steered them home.
On Saturday Leigh faced Bolton, who were all out for 169, Dimery taking 3-49, Carl Gorst 3-16.
In reply Leigh finished on 120-6 with Dimery unbeaten on 58 and Dove 45 the only men in double figures.
