THE annual Atherton Charity Cup Final was a time for good football, a hat-trick that didn't quite live up to the 1962 figure and a host of cherished memories.
Harold Schofield and Jack Yates, two players with the successful Blakemores side of 1948, were guests of honour and presented this year's trophy.
That went to Steve Cooney, who captained Atherton Town to a 3-1 win against Hindsford.
Skipper Danny Toone kept Hindsford in with a shout with a goal for a 1-1 interval score.
But hotshot Tony Carter clinched victory with three goals, completing his treble just before the final whistle - but coming up short of his father's strike rate in the 1962 final.
Arthur Carter, who scored all four goals in Albion's 4-0 replay win against Atherton Central 35 years ago, stood behind the goals to watch his son in action.
"He didn't know whether to shout his son to a fourth goal or to hold back to keep his own record intact," joked one spectator in a Alder House crowd of around 300.
Delighted Harold said: "It was a wonderful night and an exciting match. It was an occasion to meet many people I had not seen in many years and brought back a lot of memories."
Organiser Joyce Armistead revealed that £1,340 was the total raised in this year's highly-successful event.
