AS you reported (LET, May 13) after all the turmoil of Rossendale's Environmental Health Committee, the council is to go ahead with the next phase of the controversial 'wheelie bins.'
What a big con on the Valley public!
Though the problem of carrying bins up and down steps has not been solved, the next phase will go ahead straight into controversy.
We pay for a service but have to do part of the job ourselves. No wonder the council claim to save cash - but only on the backs of the public. I hope they wake up in time.
The council do not need to "tighten up on leafletting." All it needs is a bit of common sense. They should get out and face the public, as they did when they wanted our votes. Go and see what they think of the council defacing their properties.
Even a blind man can see that 'wheelie bins' do not work for everyone. As for getting the bins in place first, I think the top priority should be to get the survey right and check the complaints.
We certainly don't want a fait accompli before the arrival of these eyesores. For some they work, but for others, especially those living on hillsides, they don't.
