English Schools RL Cup Final A PHYSICALLY stronger Leeds outfit deserved beat a game St Helens side at Headingley.
The home side started off like a whirlwind, but St Helens tackled bravely.
Half-backs Anderton and Traynor began to come more into the game and St Helens took the lead when Anderton sprinted through a gap for a try converted by Picton
With forwards Costello and May rampant, more points should have been put on the board, but St Helens were left to rue missed chances.
Poor discipline led to penalties for Leeds and home dangerman Mathers burst through from full back to score from 40 metres.
Just before the break lost full-back Williams to the sin-bin and Leeds took advantage to score a converted try through prop Bailey.
Immediately on the re-start Mathers broke St Helens hearts with a 60-metre dash to the line before poor tackling allowed Bailey in for his second try.
But St Helens battled back bravely. However, just when it looked a s though they would score Leeds' Barker intercepted and raced the length of the field to seal the outcome.
