A 31-year-old man has died after an industrial accident at the Terry Adams Pilsworth quarry at Pilsworth Road, Bury.
Police say Peter Nicholson, a father of two, was run over by a loading shovel land moving vehicle on an access road within the quarry on Tuesday morning (May 13).
Mr Nicholson, of York Street West, Middleton, was taken to Bury General Hospital in a serious condition but he died later.
According to witnesses, Mr Nicholson, a foreman was talking on a radio or mobile phone when he slipped under the wheel of the vehicle.
The driver has been named as Brian Duckworth (45), of Mentmore Road, Rochdale. He was taken to hospital suffering from shock but was later released.
Police say there appears to be no suspicious circumstances and the inquiry into the accident has been taken over by the Health and Safety Executive.
A police spokesman said: "A sudden death report will be completed by police and forwarded to the coroner."
An inquest into the death opened in Rochdale on Thursday (May 15) and was adjourned pending a full hearing at a later date.
