TYLDESLEY'S "Cabbage" social club may re-open as a pub.
This month cash-strapped Tyldesley Allotments Club closed through declining support. Even attractions like a bumper, bargain-priced Sunday morning breakfast menu couldn't halt the slide.
But now negotiations are underway to re-open the club as a pub.
Top facilities, including spacious games and concert rooms plus a bowling green, have attracted pub planners.
Former steward Brian Leece, who lives on the premises and hopes to continue as licensee, said this week:"The brewery is currently going through the licensing process."
Tyldesley Allotments and Smallholders Association, which looks after gardeners' interests, and whose members created the original "Cabbage" social club, is unaffected by the situation.
At Easter Tyldesley's town centre Labour Club closed and immediately reopened as Tyldesley Social Club.
