THE grieving son of a man who died from a simple flu jab says he will not be taking legal action against the manufacturers.

Mr Colin Richardson's father Harry Richardson (60), of Hilda Avenue, Tottington died after a millions-to-one reaction from the common injection.

After his death his common law wife Mrs Sylvia Pilsworth said she would be taking action.

But this week his son, of Bowes Avenue, Tottington said : "We just want to be left to grieve my dad's death.

"But everyone keeps stopping us and saying we are making money out of what happened. They don't understand that it is not us who are taking proceedings against the company.

"I'm not saying the company are not to blame but none of us is interested in compensation

"No amount of money is going to bring my dad back and we don't want people thinking we are going to use his death as a way of making money

"It's nothing to do with us and we don't want our names associated with the case. I just want my dad to rest in peace and let me and my family come to terms with his death."

He added: "I feel strongly that people should be aware of the risks associated with the drug, but no amount of money is going to bring him back."

A verdict of "misadventure" was recorded at the inquest last week.

Following the administration of the drug - Flu Virin - in October 1992, Mr Richardson became a paraplegic and after a series of symptoms died in July of last year. He left behind a daughter and two sons.
