NOMINATIONS are being sought for a king and queen to help Burnley's King Cotton Carnival celebrations go with a swing.
The first ever celebration of the cotton industry will be held on June 14. The family event is sponsored by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and Endsleigh Insurance.
Anyone wishing to nominate themselves, or someone else, for the title should send a letter of no more than 100 words to explain why they should be picked.
People of all ages are invited, but organisers stress anyone nominated should be informed in advance.
The king and queen could be someone who is involved in the community, works for charity or has connections with the cotton industry.
A carnival will leave the Weavers' Triangle at 1pm to arrive at the bandstand at 1.45pm. The coronation will take place in the town centre at 2pm.
The regal representatives will be VIP guests for the day and will lead the procession into town. They will each receive a VIP Cinema ticket to admit two to the new Apollo Cinema.
Nominations, on an A4 sheet, should be sent to King and Queen Cotton, Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Keirby Walk, Burnley, BB11 2DE or High Street, Blackburn, BB1 1HT.
Judging takes place on June 6, the winners to be informed by June 9.
