SOLICITOR Chris Eddlestone has helped to raise £1.1 million for Macmillan Cancer Relief over the years.

Now he is one of eleven charity workers awarded with honorary life memberships by the national charity.

He was presented with the award in York by the Marchioness of Zetland, president of Macmillan Cancer Relief in the presence of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of York and the Sheriff of York.

Mr Eddlestone, who lives at Whins Lodge, Read, first became involved as a member of the Greater Manchester Committee through a friend, Martin Burlin, who was chairman.

At that time the committee was involved in a three-quarters of a million pound appeal.

Mr Eddlestone has taken part in four appeals, the last three as chairman, one in Burnley and two in Blackburn.

The Burnley appeal raised £110,000 to fund a nurse and the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley appeal brought in £160,000 to fund two new Macmillan nurses, now in post locally.

Mr Eddlestone, 47, is senior partner in the firm of Birchall Blackburn of Manchester, Preston and Accrington.

His wife, Gillian, is chairman of the Read Macmillan appeal.
