TOWNELEY Hall's latest painting poses the question: "Are you on it?"

Burnley-born artist Liam Spencer was given free rein when commissioned to paint a view in Towneley Park. His finished work, now on display for the first time, shows the hall on a sunny day late last summer.

A spokesman at the town's art gallery and museum said: "It shows visitors walking their dogs or strolling in the park in front of the building. We are hoping people will come along and perhaps recognise themselves!"

Also on display in the mini exhibition, following Liam's successful 'Windows on the World' display at Towneley last year, will be the artist's original drawings and sketches for the new work. While carrying out the commission, sponsored by the Edward Stocks Massey Bequest, Liam also painted several other views in the park, some of which are on sale.

Towneley Hall say there are more paintings to see at Towneley this Summer than ever before. Following the re-opening of the art galleries after refurbishment, a selection of more than 80 works from the hall's collection of prints, drawings and watercolours will be on display throughout the summer.

Works range from modern prints by David Wild to 18th century watercolours by JMW Turner. Old favourites like Myles Birket Foster's 'Wandering Minstrels' are included, alongside lesser known works such as Hugh Gresty's 1915 student sketchbook from Nelson Art School.

Towneley Hall's complete collection of watercolours by Noel H Leaver is also on display on the first floor, until June 15.
