DISABLED Shirley Heys of Colne swam three miles at West Craven pool, Barnoldswick to raise money for the Friends of Coldwell Inn Activity Centre.

Among those cheering her on were the mayor of Pendle, Coun Jo Belbin, and the mayor's consort, John Belbin.

The sponsored swim raised more than £200 to help a disabled group take a holiday at the centre on the moors above Nelson.

Now in its eighth year, the Activity Centre offers holiday accommodation for physically and mentally disabled groups.

It also provides rehabilitation programmes for young offenders referred by the courts.

The centre is thought to be the only one of its kind in the country.
