A MAN was today being interviewed by Burnley police in connection with a pensioner who was found at the side of a road with serious injuries.

Father-of-eight Leonard Rostron, 69, of Sedburgh Street, Burnley, was found collapsed on a grass verge off Marsden Road, Burnley, early last Monday morning.

He had suffered severe internal injuries and later that day underwent emergency surgery.

It included the removal of his spleen.

He is now recovering in Burnley General Hospital, where his condition is said to be "comfortable".

It is not yet known whether his injuries were the result of an attack, fall, or a hit-and-run incident.

Detective Sergeant Peter McKendrick said a local man had been taken to the police station where he was helping with inquiries.
