IN reply to Mr Waterworth (Letters, May 28), I note that he claims to be a pleasure angler and does not consider himself a sportsman. Mr Waterworth goes on to say that no angler gives his quarry the impression of kindness when he gives the fish a tempting morsel.
When I said that, perhaps I was being too kind to an angler who seems to think in a totally selfish way,
In reply to his cheap statement that a growing number of disabled people take up angling but perhaps I would suggest they play rugby, I would ask him not to put words in my mouth.
He says some anglers are match fishermen and compete in a league and so, could be called sportsmen. I cannot agree. Of course, they are in competition with each other but that doesn't make it a sport.
Lastly, I did not support boxing. I said it isn't cruel because both contestants enter the ring freely.
The fish don't, Mr Waterworth.
