GARY Hodkinson's bright idea is the toast of his factory.
The British Aerospace Samlesbury employee came up with a new method for production of components for Airbus which has saved time and money on the shopfloor.
His idea was to simplify the way leading edge skins for Airbus wings were attached. The new method reduced the time taken to complete it by 50 per cent and made considerable cost savings.
Gary, from Blackburn, has now won one of six bronze awards at the site under the Chairman's Awards for Innovation scheme. "Every award reflects tremendous credit to the individuals concerned," said Samlesbury site director Phill Blundell. "Innovation is key to maintaining our competitive edge."
The Chairman's Awards for Innovation were introduced last year by BAe boss Bob Bauman to reward outstanding achievements by employees.
Every bronze award winner automatically goes through to be considered along with other winners from BAe Military Aircraft sites for a silver award. Silver winners go forward to a company wide gold award judging panel.
