PENSIONER David Grogan has set sail in his boat on his own voyage of discovery.
David, 69, has left Lancashire for Fuengirola in Spain on a journey that will take him three weeks to complete.
Despite undergoing a double heart by-pass operation and suffering a stroke, the plucky pensioner of Whalley New Road, Blackburn, was determined to captain the trip on his 30ft Bermuda sloop, The Kitty Flow 2.
David left from Fleetwood with three friends...but wife Mavis, 63, is keeping her feet firmly on the ground.
She said: "You wouldn't get me on it. I much prefer the land.
"He's crewed on journeys to Spain before and he's been looking forward to taking charge this time.
"He bought the boat for £13,000 without telling me 17 years ago and spends every spare minute he can on it.
"I'm going to miss him now he's gone, but I'll be joining him soon - only I'm flying!"
Former shopkeeper David is expected to spend three weeks in the Spanish port before making the journey back.
