WHY were those Blackburn councillors running scared of putting their 'fat cat' allowance rises before the electorate? It is no good crying that the review of them was finished after the election, or giving the excuse that if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
This gang of socialist councillors was well aware of the outcome and could have given specific instructions to the review commission to report well in advance of the election.
One notes that the commission was not representative of the electorate or the taxpayers? How many live in Blackburn? It's no good the councillors whingeing - they knew what the job entailed and the conditions that appertained and undertook it for the glory.
Now, if it's money they want, why not make the councillor fully-funded? Then maybe and only then will the job attract the people of the right calibre to get this town out of the quagmire their socialist control has dragged it into.
W MEADOWS (Mr), Whalley New Road, Blackburn.
