I WAS amused to read of Blackburn's new Social Services chairman Sue Reid, demanding that councillors should get the respect they deserve (LET, May 30).
It is a very good job that they don't. In my experience, they cannot carry one simple idea on from one year to another.
There were many campaigns in the Seventies concerning drop kerbs for wheelchairs and prams.
As a sometime disabled scooter user, I am constantly marooned on high kerbs or in roadways with traffic zipping past.
Which respected councillors should be approached about this matter? Planners, Highways? Where does the buck stop?
Do these respected councillors have to be approached yearly to remind them that all roadworks should keep drop kerbs in mind?
If by respect Sue Reid merely means money, most people would vote for a cut, not a rise.
H DICKINSON (Mrs), Kinross Walk, Blackburn.
