ONE of football's great globetrotters would be happy to enjoy his last hurrah at Gigg Lane.
Andy Gray once of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Marbella, Tottenham and - lest we forget - England, has mentioned Bury as a possibility during interviews with the Scottish press.
Gray, now 33, has most recently been plying his considerable skills north of the border at Falkirk where he helped The Bairns to their first Scottish Cup final since 1957.
Having also featured - albeit for a mere, 42 seconds - in an English Cup final for Palace against Manchester United, Gray has a wealth of experience and was unanimously voted man of the match in the Tennents final at Ibrox where his Falkirk side went down by a single goal to Kilmarnock in front of a 50,000 full house.
"I'm an underachiever," said the late starter in professional football. "I know I can still do a job somewhere. There is still history to be made for me."
Shakers' boss Stan Ternent was Gray's coach at Palace and knows all about his strengths, however he remained cool about any possible move for the player.
"I worked with Andy at Crystal Palace and because he has declared his intentions to leave Falkirk people are putting two and two together," said the Shakers' manager.
"Andy Gray is just one player, on a long list, in whom we might be interested if the deal is right for Bury."
Although he didn't say so, Ternent is unlikely to make a formal approach unless Gray is given a free by Falkirk and that is extremely unlikely because he still has a year of his contract to run. The Bairns' chairman, George Fulston, may hold the key to Gray's future but he was away on business yesterday (May 29) and unavailable for comment.
