Young vandals who ran amok in Scotforth cemetery have been reprimanded by the police. The tearaways who are just seven and eight years-old wreaked havoc by destroying headstones and vases at the Ashford Road burial ground causing £1,000 worth of damage last Thursday afternoon. Stephen Mann, of Lancaster City Council environmental health service in charge of cemeteries, said the vandalism was a sad reflection of social responsibility. "This was a large scale wilful act. About eight memorials were damaged, 70 vases were smashed and lots of personal and sentimental mementos were destroyed, it beggars belief." The youngsters were taken to the police station earlier this week but no action was taken.
