AFRIKAS nightclub is making a second controversial bid to party late into the early hours.
The Accrington nightspot, in Blackburn Road, is hoping councillors on Hyndburn's licensing sub-committee will give them the go-ahead this week to open from 6.30pm to 3am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
But local police, who opposed Afrikas' original request to open until 3am on weekdays and Saturdays, say they will attempt to block the latest proposals. They say that if this application is approved it will pave the way for other entertainment venues to stay open until the early hours.
Afrikas, which holds a maximum of 200 revellers, failed to appeal against councillors' previous decision in December last year.
