SATURDAY promises to be a real Knockout for the people of Tockholes, who are holding their 20th annual gala this weekend.

An 'It's a Knockout' style contest - Knockout 2000 - will be the highlight of what promises to be a fun packed day for spectators and competitors alike, as nine local companies battle it out among the inflatables and water squirting for the Champions Cup.

Among the other attractions at the event, there will be a pet show, a display by the Mountaineering Rescue Team, a beer tent, children's fairground rides and an appearance by the Thwaites Shire Horses.

In addition, people will be able to try their hand at abseiling, and watch in amazement a display of duck herding by local sheepdogs!

The gala will start at 12.30 tomorrow (Saturday) on the school field on Rock Lane, Tockholes. In the evening there will be a 60s and 70s disco in the field marquee. On the Sunday the marquee is the venue for a special church service.

Money raised from the event will go towards cancer research, which was nominated because three villagers have died of the disease in the last year. Pensioners and children's groups have also benefited from the event in previous years.
