REGARDING Mrs J M Hadfield's view that the new millennium offers a great chance to change our national anthem, I could not agree with her more!
It never seems fair to me that our rugby players, before a match, have to sing along to such a doleful air, when the Welsh contingent can make the heart swell with Land of Our Fathers, which they render with such gusto and pride.
And what about the French? The Marseillaise is a fine, stirring tune.
Considering our maritime history, perhaps a cheery little number based on the hornpipe would do.
