BLACKBURN'S new shopping centre manager believes it is time to repay the people of Blackburn for their continued support during the town's 'transitional' years.
For as the town centre's massive refurbishment programme comes to an end, Eamonn Furlong has put community-based activities top of his list to thank shoppers.
The former retailer has been impressed by the town's strong community spirit and a warmth that convinced him Blackburn was for him.
Tipperary-born Mr Furlong, 49, is widely experienced in the profession of managing shopping centres, having bossed centres in Sheffield, Leeds and Tunbridge Wells. He comes to Blackburn from Ireland's largest complex, The Square in Dublin, where he has spent the last four years.
He said: "While it is too early to say what community-based activities will be going on, it is something I intend doing. The community has kept Blackburn shopping centre going and that is why it is one of the most successful centres in the North of England. Now it is time for us to give something back to the community.
"I haven't been here long but I have been very impressed by the incredible warmth and friendliness of the people of the town. And I've already met representatives from the local authority and various business partnerships in the town and there is a great enthusiasm about what this town has to offer."
Mr Furlong, married to Marian with two teenage daughters Sonia and Zena, takes over the hot seat from Allan Caster who has retired after 14 successful years in the job.
