A PENSIONER was rescued from the moors at Hoddlesden last night. John Beswick, 79, was found sitting 200 metres from the road by a jogger just before 7pm.
He had walked there from the Greenways Home for the Elderly in Darwen wearing slippers.
Darwen ambulance crew were called out and Rossendale Search and Rescue team alerted.
Peter Washington, a leading ambulanceman based at Darwen, attended the scene with paramedic Chris Fraser Clark.
Mr Washington said: "We think he had been there for a couple of hours. He had set off walking from the home in the morning, gone up to the moors and just sat down.
"He only had a pair of slippers on his feet. He must have got to the stage where his feet were sore, so he sat down.''
Mr Beswick was not injured but he was taken to hospital for a check-up.
Mr Washington said: "We couldn't get an ambulance up there but the search and rescue team managed to get one of their four-wheel drive vehicles quite close to him. It was a good team effort.''
