South Yorkshire Jaguars 8
St Helens Cardinals 34 ST HELENS ground out the yardage, and the victory in a windswept South Yorkshire.
Behind the play-calling of quarterback Paul Fallon the Cardinals drove the length of the pitch on six running plays ending in Archer's first touchdown, a six-yard run up the middle. McEvoy tacked on the conversion.
At the start of the second quarter a promising drive by the Jaguars was brought to an end when a touchdown bound pass by the quarterback was batted down by Orlando Holman to give St Helens possession at their own eight.
Paul Fallon again lead St Helens on a march down field the 12 play drive culminating in a 24-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Charlie Holland.
The Yorkshiremen moved the ball successfully for the only time in the game scoring on a two-yard 'sneak'.
On their opening possession of the second half Archer broke several tackles and scampered 56 yardsto extend the St Helens lead. The Jaguars' next drive was stalled when Ray Elliot picked off the quarterback setting up St Helens deep in South Yorkshire territory. Six plays later Archer rounded off his first Cardinal hat-trick. Green ran in the conversion.
Following a strong showing by the Cardinal defence, forcing the Jaguars to kick, the punter saw his effort against a strong wind fall practically back to his feet and St Helens had excellent field position on the Jaguars' 34-yard line. Successive passes from Fallon to veteran receiver Clark of 23 and six yards, the second into the endzone.
