CHELSEA manager and Dutch legend Ruud Gullit believes Marco Gentile is one of the finest uncapped players in Holland.
News of Burnley's surprise capture has caused shockwaves in Dutch football with Gentile expected to pledge his future to newly promoted MVV Maastricht.
But the Chelsea manager is a long time admirer of the classy defender and says that Holland were wrong to overlook Gentile when his name was strongly linked with the national side in the early 1990s.
The ex-AC Milan ace said: "He is definitely one of the best players in Holland to have never got a cap at international level.
"Every time I saw him play I was impressed with his performance and I always believed he was a candidate for the national team.
"He always caught my eye with his powerful defensive displays and he has a very fine sense of position on the football field.
"He is a hard but fair individual and a fine, all-round footballer. He is the sort of player I would always have faith in.
"I know Romario (Brazil) did not enjoy playing against him at all. I saw a couple of games involving Den Haag and PSV Eindhoven and Gentile always had the edge over Romario when the two clashed.
"Also, he gave one of the best defensive displays I've ever seen against Dennis Bergkamp.
"It is a hard task keeping Bergkamp quiet because he is one of the best strikers on the planet, but he did not get a kick with Gentile marking him.
"Gentile is one of the best man markers I've ever seen and I still don't think it is too late for him to play at the highest level.
"I think the Italian Serie A would have suited him. I've always thought that."
Doncaster Rovers defender Darren Moore is expected to join First Division Bradford City today. Moore was reported to be the subject of interest from Burnley and Fulham.
