REGARDING your story "Young yobs raise anger on estate" (LET, May 28), lack of parental control in most cases is at fault.
Lack of moral standards in society doesn't help matters either.
However, when Coun Paul Smith and Coun Granville Lord warn that if a nightwatchman was employed at the Stonemoor Bottom estate, Padiham, he would have no powers to arrest people responsible if he saw vandalism taking place, I must point out that there is such action as "a citizen's arrest".
This can be performed by any person while using the minimum force (in law), to detain the culprit.
Also Reporting restrictions should be lifted if legal action is taken against the parents or the children.
All individuals should know the difference between right and wrong, and not be allowed to escape punishment by using excuses such as: "I'm from a broken home," "I'm a minor," "I'm on drugs," etc. We need strong political leaders, parents, teachers and a police force etc, as well as a more involved general public, to maintain a more disciplinarian way of life for the future.
Governments should refrain from this laissez-faire attitude. Individuals in the public eye should have a high standard of ethics and give society an example of how we should live and work in a more harmonious environment.
To be perfectly honest, I do not see a rosy future, but can well see the era of the vigilante coming to fruition, if it's not already in its early stages.
