A £20 million defence order brought smiles to the faces of 1,700 workers at an East Lancashire factory who had spent anxious months worrying about their future.
The order for top-secret fuses for the British Army's main anti-tank mine was won by Blackburn's Royal Ordnance factory in the face of fierce competition from 11 other UK companies, including GEC and Thorn EMI.
