THEIR friends thought they were joking. Their families thought they were mad. But Peter Turner and Julie Tarmey had made up their minds.

They were going to get married and celebrate by going straight on the Big One ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The romantic pair will wed each other on June 14, exactly one year since they met at a friend's barbecue.

Then they will travel in a horse-drawn carriage from the church ceremony at Cleveleys Baptist Church directly to the Pleasure Beach. From there, they will be escorted in a buggy to the ride.

Pete,24, along with others in the bridal party will be wearing a kilt. Julie,21, will be dressed in a traditional white dress complete with head-dress and veil.

A whole carriage on the Big One has been reserved for them and 30 members of their wedding party.

At the top, the ride will stop and the couple will be able to drink champagne and have confetti thrown on them. The BBC's Northern Exposure Team will be filming the whole thing for a documentary.

Julie has been on the ride only once and described it as "completely brilliant". Pete has never been on it.

Julie, of North Drive, Cleveleys, said: "It started as a joke when I was talking to a friend on a telephone but when I talked about it to Pete we decided to go for it.

"It will be something to really look back and remember about the day. After all its not what everyone does on their wedding day."

Pete, of Parkstone Avenue, Thornton said: "We just wanted to make a really big splash of it. We couldn't think of a better way."
