MORECAMBE and Lunesdale MP, Geraldine Smith, will open the new Carers Centre on behalf of the Lonsdale District Carers Forum.
The Carers Centre, similar to those already open in other parts of the country (e.g. Sefton, Harrogate, Pembroke, etc...) will give carers the opportunity to have a short break and a chat to other carers - whether to share caring experiences and so provide mutual help and support or to chat about any other subject - in a friendly atmosphere over a cup of tea or coffee. It is estimated that 1 in 7 of the population are carers, people who have to look after someone like a partner or a relative at home because they are unable to perform the daily tasks of life themselves.
The Carers Centre opened on Monday June 9 but the official opening does not take place until Friday June 13 at 10am.
Lancaster's MP Hilton Dawson, the Mayor, County Councillors and representatives of Lancashire Social Services, Morecambe Bay Health Authority, the two Hospital Trusts and others have also been invited to the official opening.
The Carers Centre - at Unit 10, Plaza Buildings, Queen Street, Morecambe - will be open between 11am and 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. For more information, call Eric Staed on (01524) 418723 or Tony Nutall (01524) 832425.
