PUPILS at a local school will be kicking up a song and a dance next week to help boost school funds.
For St Paul's Primary School is holding its first ever arts week and children have been busy recording a tape of original material and their favourite assemble songs.
Pupils from the Hoddlesden school will be performing a concert next Friday to parents hoping it will be a huge success - as tapes featuring songs from the performance will be on sale at £3.99.
The tape features favourites sung by the whole school while each individual class has penned original tracks about themselves and proceeds will go towards school funds.
The concert rounds off a week full of activities which include visits from artists, authors, dance groups and performers.
Children's author Hazel Townson will be at the school on Monday with Darwen artist David Yates passing on some tricks of the trade on Tuesday. Thursday sees the visit of the Ludus Dance Company and The Harlequin Theatre Company who will perform Toad of Toad Hall.
Year Two tutor Jeanette Main who has co-ordinated the tape and has helped put the arts week together said if it is a success, the school could hold the event on a regular basis.
She said: "A lot of work has gone into putting the week-long programme together and we would like to see similar events held in the future, perhaps every two years."
