A SHOCKED prison officer made a gruesome early morning discovery when he found a man hanging in his cell.
Prisoner Leon Parkinson was discovered in his single cell at Preston Prison at 2.15am on Tuesday (June 10).
The officer and paramedics tried in vain to resuscitate him but he was found to be dead at Royal Preston Hospital just over an hour later.
A prison spokesperson said the 23-year-old, of William Henry Street, Preston, had been on remand on a burglary charge.
She added: "It's a great tragedy for the prison and the family. There will be a full internal investigation."
The finding came just hours after a man died when he fell from the car park at Preston's bus station.
A passer-by spotted someone on the edge of the roof just after 7.30pm on Monday (June 9).
The dead man was named as 26-year-old Mohammed Choudhry of Ribbleton, Preston.
Inspector Martin Worden of Preston police said: "There are no suspicious circumstances and his relatives have been informed."
