VANDALS have been warned to stay away from a new playground by councillors who fought a long battle to see it built.
Sherwood councillors Marie Milne and Jennifer Greenhalgh called for people living near a modern play area to look after it so that years of hard work don't go to waste.
Along with residents the pair spent seven years fighting to stop children in the area playing in the streets and now land owners Commission for the New Town (CNT) has provided a brand new playground for residents.
Now Campaigners are over the moon to see the area, just off Tower Lane, close to Sherwood Village Green, near completion. But they want it to stay as good as new.
Chairman of the Residents Association Councillor Milne said: "We're absolutely delighted. This is an area where young couples live so there are lots of children.
"But older children and the vandals will have to stay away. It is very precious to us and is not to be misused."
Children playing on the new swings, slide or climbing frame will also be separated from people walking their dogs thanks to a perimeter fence.
And another improvement comes in the form of dog litter bins in the adjoining field which are proving very popular in keeping the area green.
Councillor Greenhalgh said: "We're delighted. Mothers and children can now go and enjoy a safe environment."
The playground and bins have been paid for by CNT but will be the responsibility of Preston council and residents to maintain.
A CNT spokesman said: "We've been more than happy to provide this facility."
