ST HELENS cyclists were in top form this week.Andy Tinsley riding for New Brighton proved too powerful for his rivals to win the 40 km Mike Walsh Memorial Criterium at Birkenhead Park. St Helens CRC juvenile, Edmund Leary (14) won the U-16 event from Mike Garner on the same programme with a powerful sprint. On Sunday in the 104 km Birkenhead Victoria Classic Criterium, Billinge's Dave Hitchen (New Brighton CC) was just edged into second place on the line behind winner M. Bell with Andy Tinsley filling fifth spot. Rainford High pupil Edmund Leary came third in the U-16 event with Mike Garner gaining his revenge over a shorter course. Over in Chesterfield, Chris Burrows (New Brighton) came fifth in the Chesterfield Spire road race.
