A MAN whom police wanted to question in connection with the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman in St Helens centre in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, has come forward to clear his name.

The man went to St Helens Police Station voluntarily on Wednesday, June 4. He was interviewed by police officers and released later that same day without charge.

A police spokesman said they would later be presenting an incident file to the Crown Prosecution Service but added that they were not looking for anyone else.
