OVER three thousand pensioners in the Wigan area suffer from Dementia, which means there must also be a similar number of people who have the responsibility for caring for a Dementia sufferer.
A special group is being formed to provide 'support, a listening ear and time out' for these carers, who are often put under considerable stress.
The first meeting is to be held at the Sunshine House Dementia Day Centre in Scholes, Wigan on June 26, starting 2pm. Transport can be provided and care for relatives while the meeting is taking place can be arranged.
At the meeting there will be a speaker from Alzheimer's Disease Society.
Wigan Social Services team manager Marjorie Webster said: "Looking after someone with Dementia can be very traumatic and stressful. I hope that everyone in the Borough who has a Dementia sufferer to look after will feel able to come along and meet our team and other carers."
People who want to know more can contact Marjorie Webster on 01942 620068 or Joan Wadcock on 01942 748807.
