PUPILS Darryl Slack and Alison Nicholas have been chosen as King and Queen Cotton for Burnley's first ever King Cotton Carnival on Saturday.
They will be crowed by Cotton Queen of yesteryear Janey Smith, who held the title 60 years ago.
Darryl, aged 10, of Rome Avenue, Burnley, is an active member of the Florence Avenue Neighbourhood Society and was picked out for his energy and enthusiasm. He attends Coal Clough Primary School and a keen sportsman; playing football for the Junior Clarets, cricket and tennis.
Alison, who is 11, has already proved she has an artistic flair with her stage appearances in amateur dramatic and choral activities. She also plays the flute. Alison is a pupil at Rose Hill Junior School and lives in Gainsborough Avenue.
One of the perks of their title is a six month pass to the new Apollo cinema which has just opened in town.
