OFFICIALS of a local branch of a national charity are appealing to members of the public to don their running shoes in aid of a worthy cause.
The Newton-le-Willows District Committee of the NSPCC is gearing up for its second annual Fun Run, which will start at 2pm on Sunday, June 15.
The run will start from Willow Park/St Peter's Church, Newton, and is designed to be an event all the family can enjoy.
Runners have a choice of a one-mile or a one-and-a-half-mile course and the entry fee for runners is £2 per adult and £1 for children, payable at the start.
All children aged seven years and under who complete the course will be presented with a commemorative medal.
The committee would like to stress that the run is a fun event and not a race. And as a result numbers will not be allocated, but coloured stickers given at registration should be worn.
All the money raised by the event will go towards the NSPCC centre opened in Church Square, St Helens, last November. The new centre is used to counsel children, help parents and young families, and to provide protection for children who are considered high risk.
Last year the Fun Run raised £350 and committee members at Newton hope to better that amount this year.
