STAFF and pupils from Edge End High School, Nelson, travelled to London's Barbican Theatre to receive a national award from Princess Anne.
Edge End won the School Curriculum Award for building links with parents, business and primary schools.
Two members of staff and two pupils were among representatives from 200 schools for the presentation ceremony.
Edge End won the award by showing how its links with the community stimulated pupils and enhanced their achievements. Working with industry was one of the main themes, and several local businesses sponsored the school's submission for the award.
Following the royal presentation, Edge End held its own event at the school on Tuesday night. Staff and pupils presented the governing body with the award.
Head of humanities Bob Irving said: "Winning this award has given staff and pupils, and many other connected with the school, tremendous pride. It is further confirmation of the enjoyable and diverse learning experiences available to each and every pupil in the school."
