AN electric storm erupted as Norweb announced it had almost doubled its profits and National Power revealed 2,400 jobs were being cut.
Norweb made £137.9 million before tax in 1991/92 - its first year of privatisation, compared to £70.3 million the previous year.
National Power, which operated Padiham Power Station, said 2,400 jobs would go, despite a profit jump of 18% to £514 million.
