TEACHERS' leaders reacted predictably to Prince Charles' attack on trendy teaching, which he blamed for a decline in standards over the past four decades.
Their suggestion is that the Prince speaks from ignorance - when, in fact, his charity, The Prince's Trust, which helps young people, is routinely confronted by the failings of the education system and its methods.
And the fact that the school tests, which teachers relentlessly resisted, show that almost half of primary children are failing to reach the required levels of literacy and numeracy suggests that the situation cannot be ignored or blamed wholly on a lack of resources.
The prince, then, is right to express concern.
And rather than smarting, teachers would do well to also react with concern.
