FRIENDS and family helped Gertie Livesey celebrate her 100th birthday in style on Saturday.
Gertie, who lives at the Sunnybank Residential Home in Blackburn Road, Rishton, enjoyed a buffet and karaoke party on her big day.
The sprightly centenarian was born in Scotland but has lived in Blackburn most of her life.
She worked in the cotton mills as a young woman, married twice and has two step-children.
Senior carer Agnes Cotton said: "She is very active. Until last year she was going to the pub and even now she goes for walks.
"She didn't want any fuss made about her birthday but it has been wonderful for her.''
Agnes said Gertie, who moved to Sunnybank six years ago, was particularly touched to receive her telegram from the Queen.
