ZANY workers from Sainsbury's are using their initiative to travel between stores in Burnley and Bamber Bridge in an effort to help raise £1m.
The supermarket is backing the Special Olympics, which this year will be held in Portsmouth, and has joined forces with the police to set up a fund-raiser involving all the stores.
Northern teams will get to Bamber Bridge and some will carry on to the store's Haydock depot and eventually to Portsmouth.
A team of 25 people from Burnley, made up of Sainsbury's workers and friends, are planning to make the trip on June 22 by cycling, travelling by motorised scooter, pushing wheelchairs and even riding a unicycle. Many will be in fancy dress and they are being supported by Burnley ShopMobility and the East Lancashire Disabled Drivers Association.
Organiser and deputy store manager Heather Walker said: "We are hoping to be able to get Burnley athlete Mark Brown, who has won medals at the games, to accompany us and we are looking for anyone who wants to join in to turn up at the store on the day at 10.30am.
"The 13 northern region stores have got together and bought a car which is being raffled to customers and ticket sales in Burnley alone have raised £1,500."
