HEALTHCARE group Smith & Nephew is leaving the list of Britain's top shares.
The firm, which employs more than 800 people in East Lancashire, is leaving the FTSE 100 index to make way for the Alliance & Leicester, which recently converted from a building society to a bank and has a bigger market capitalisation than Smith & Nephew.
Smith & Nephew will now join the next 'league' down in the city - the FTSE 250 index.
