CAMPAIGNERS have organised a public meeting with local councillors in their battle to stop more new homes being built in their village.

They are confident local people will back them in their objections to houses being built in Trawden.

Objectors claim up to 120 new homes could be built in two unconnected schemes on sites at Forest Shed and land between Clifton Street and Hall Meadows, if developers get their way.

Campaigners are to meet Pendle MP Gordon Prentice on Saturday to outline their concerns.

They hope villagers will turn out in force on Monday to press their case with local councillors during the public meeting.

One of the objectors, Susan Bailey, of Hall Meadows, said: "We just want to keep the village as a village and not just a subsidiary of Colne. "The developers want to knock down Forest Shed at the bottom of Dean Street and build between 50 and 60 houses on the site.

"There's also talk about houses being built on the meadow between Clifton Street and Hall Meadows with probably the same amount on it.

"We've only got a B road through the village.

"The school's full, the doctor's full, and we don't need these extra houses."

The parish council has already made clear it opposition to any scheme to build large numbers of new homes.

Ken Ingham has applied to Pendle Council for outline planning permission to build houses on the Forest Shed site and on land between it and the village primary school.

Objectors said any scheme for the Hall Meadows site would be separate from Mr Ingham's application.
